4 Things You Should Know Before Scheduling Ground Penetrating Radar
by admin in Uncategorized
In order to get the most out of our ground penetrating radar (GPR) services, there are some important things you, as a business owner, should know first. Accurate information up front will help you make the best choice as to the kind of equipment needed for your project and it will allow our technicians to realistically predict the length of time a job will take. To help prepare you before you utilize our GPR technology, we’ve put together a list of four things you should know about the process.
What Ground Penetrating radar (GPR) is: GPR is a technology that unobtrusively penetrates through the earth’s surface to properly define and identify underground unknowns that could adversely affect your excavation efforts. These unknowns include hidden power lines and other utilities. Having this information could help keep equipment from being damaged or workmen from being injured or even killed.
You should be able describe the area to be scanned: Are there any obstructions that will make reaching the area difficult? Are there trees and bushes or other obstacles in the way that might impede the ability to scan and for which our technicians will have to make adjustments?
The depth of GPR penetration depends on the material being surveyed and also the antenna frequency being used: Dry or sandy soils provide the ideal conditions in which to use GPR. However, in less than ideal soil conditions GPR can still be useful for site managers and crews. As far as frequencies are concerned, higher frequencies can see small objects, but cannot penetrate very deep. Lower frequencies can penetrate to greater depths, but can only see larger objects.
GPR services are safe for both spectators and equipment operators: Ground penetrating radar is extremely safe and emits roughly 1% of the power of a cell phone signal. It is a form of Non-destructive testing (NDT) that leaves the objects scanned and all who will be around the equipment unharmed.
Armed with this knowledge, you can rest assured that Accu-Scan GPR offers the most accurate, convenient, and non-destructive subsurface imaging possible. Using our utility locating services and our ground penetrating radar systems can save time and money and limit the chances of a destructive or dangerous surprise.Tags: GPR scanning, ground penetrating radar, radar, Sensor Technology
